We have described molecular sieves and activated alumina in previous articles. They can both be used in adsorption and drying activities. Not long ago we completed an order to Malaysia for a quantity of 13X Molecular sieve & Activated alumina to be used in an air drying plant.
Molecular sieves are synthetically made zeolites with well-defined pores and uniformly sized cavities. It has a three-dimensional structure of silicon dioxide (Sio2) and aluminium oxide (AlO4), which are interconnected internally. The 13X molecular sieve desiccant is mainly used for industrial natural gases including CO2, H2S, O2, H2, NH3 etc. It absorbs dry moisture and water in addition to these gases. 13X type molecular sieve is also used for mercaptan removal, catalyst carrying, air compressor systems, solvent (liquid) purification, drying of hydrogen sulphide, separation of carbon dioxide, oxygen and water from the air.
Activated alumina is a form of alumina. When examined at a microscopic level, the material consists of tiny porous spheres that are linked together in a way that forms 'tunnels' within the material.
This unique composition makes them ideal for a variety of different applications. For example, they can be used to dry gases. In order to transport volatile gases safely, it is essential to dry them. It is an excellent drying agent and is widely used for drying air and other gases, as well as for purification and dehydration in gasoline, natural gas and hydrogen peroxide production processes.
